Cristo Obrero Church of Uruguay Added to the 2021 World Heritage List

Abstract

This interview was conducted with Dr. Ciro Caraballo on the occasion of the approval of the inscription of the Cristo Obrero Church, located in Atlántida Station, Uruguay, in the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO, within the World Heritage List.

The Cristo Obrero Church in Atlántida, designed by engineer Eladio Dieste, reflects the effort to optimize the use of resources, ensuring the conservation and sustainability of the heritage property.

The inscription includes recommendations for those responsible for the cultural property such as: digitizing the archives; ensuring a constant flow of financial resources for the implementation of the conservation plan; strengthening the management system with a more direct participation of the community of Estación Atlántida; including the prior evaluation of all projects that may have an impact on the Outstanding Universal Value of the property, on its integrity and authenticity.
