Abstract

Abstract

This ongoing investigation seeks to contribute to the revaluation of the Monumental Area of Paita, a valuable testimony of the urban heritage of Northern Peru, by addressing its context and history as well as the patrimonial object itself, its subjects and current patrimonial values. The main source is the research carried out in 2017 in the Patrimony Conservation course, included in the Undergraduate Program of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Piura and complemented with adjustments and complements carried out in 2021. For this, four main methodological criteria are used: Convergent and complementary analyzes (based on methodological triangulation or convergence), contextualized treatment of the "problem-object" (in contextualization spaces of diverse scales), originality and innovation of knowledge (by providing a new approach using tools and innovative techniques consistent with the needs of the research) and practical value (seeking to generate information of interest for better urban-heritage and habitat management). The themes-axis that are developed are: Living and Habitability (by virtue of the fact that the experiential world is approached not only from its spatial scale, but from the scale of the street, the neighborhood and the city); Genius Locci and Patrimonial Value (Spirit of the place characterized not only based on the recognition of the patrimonial object but especially of its patrimonial subjects and the patrimonial values that they project on said object). Likewise, four spaces for contextualization have been considered; Collective space (Contextualized action on a semi-private and semi-public scale of society, typical of various local and academic patrimonial subjects); and Public space (Performance contextualized in various local and institutional patrimonial subjects); Institutional space (Contextualized performance in institutional patrimonial subjects); and Government space (Contextualized action in public institutional patrimonial subjects, especially the Local Government)
