The Jena Declaration

Abstract

The Jena Declaration sets out guidelines and practices to accelerate progress towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It calls for a fundamental change in the daily actions of hundreds of millions of people around the world. Specifically, the declaration seeks to stimulate more culturally sensitive policies and programs that enhance, promote and facilitate the base movements that are at the center of such mobilization. Respecting cultural and regional diversities, the goal is to exceed the expectations of the UN SDGs before 2030, and build a scenario of even greater success with each successive decade.

We must involve everyday actors, ordinary citizens, with their routines and habits. To reach them, culture and regional diversities must be respected. In this context, the design and implementation of culturally and regionally differentiated pathways to global sustainability demands a greater commitment from the humanities, social sciences, and the arts.
