50 Years Of The Faculty Of Psychology Of The Autonomous University Of Mexico.

Abstract

The Faculty of Psychology of the UNAM, celebrates half a century of responsibility and social commitment, with a remarkable and growing field of action that transcends in the health of communities. And it is unveiled with a commemorative plaque in a ceremony presided by the Rector of the Autonomous University of Mexico, Dr. Enrique Graue Wiechers, who said that the work of this academic institution is more necessary every day, due to contemporary phenomena and crises, that depression as the second cause of disability worldwide; he stressed that depression is a terrible burden, besides being costly and unproductive, affects people of all ages and all socio-economic levels. He also emphasized the educational excellence of the School, nationally recognized and reaccredited as the number one academic entity in the country in the field, and the second in Latin America, both in the undergraduate and graduate classrooms.

María Elena Medina Mora, Director of the School, emphasized that the field of action for the work and social and cultural service of the students and graduates of the School of Psychology is increasingly vast. - Graduates of this academic entity are able to dedicate themselves to the study of organizations, the environment, to assist children, adolescents, adults and the elderly, including patients during the process of delicate medical treatments.

The School of Psychology trains professionals in different areas of knowledge from numerous approaches, currents and methodology on issues related to human behavior and interrelationships.

For the attention and containment provided by the Faculty of Psychology in coordination with the Ministry of Health during the Pandemic, recognition was extended to the work that was of invaluable help in crisis situations and suicide prevention; of utmost importance in the face of the accumulation of incidents related to behavior and mental health.

Before the attendance and participation of Rector Enrique Graue Wiechers, the Secretary General, and the Director of the School of Psychology, former directors and emeritus professors, dean teachers and the university community, it became clear that in the classrooms and laboratories of the School of Psychology, have worked the most renowned psychologists in the country, and that the National System of Researchers, has 82 of its members.  The academic campus is also recognized by the national program of CONACYT, where the formation of a restless, transforming, egalitarian and service-oriented student body is guaranteed.

Thus, the School of Psychology celebrates its 50th anniversary and embraces its educational, scientific and cultural project, fulfilling its mission of responsibility and social commitment, which contributes to the enhancement of the University of the Nation and the Mental Health of the Community.
