University Citizenship 70 Years of University Spaces at UNAM

Abstract

We honor 70 YEARS of University spaces, with the project to enhance the sense of University Citizenship, based on the following questions and reflections:
What does it mean to be part of university citizenship?
To be a protagonist actor, an inhabitant of UNAM?
To be part of its classrooms and university grounds, of its esplanades?
Of its sounds and the immensity of its cultural landscape?
Living the UNAM is one of those experiences that root and give a sense of belonging to people, constituting a living heritage.
MEDUPAZ magazine joins the celebration of these 70 years of university spaces, and adheres to the efforts of all the institutions involved with the University Citizenship project. Delving into the creation of a common history, dating from the old neighborhood located in the Historic Center of Mexico City, after the move to the CU campus in the 50s; maritime ships, the expansion of university infrastructure with the creation of the colleges of Sciences and Humanities (CCH) and the 5 new campuses in the metropolitan valley of Mexico City to continue throughout the country and in 9 countries abroad, with the full potential of new technologies and inter-cultural strategies of international cooperation.
In the presence of the Rector of the University, Enrique Graue Wiechers, and before the exhibition allusive to this commemoration, installed in the Museum of the UNAM, Dr. Juan Ignacio del Cueto Ruiz Funes, Director of the Faculty of Architecture, raised the object of ... "integrate, identify and make know to be part of the UNAM, to all members of the university community: ...from the depths of the seas studied in oceanographic ships, passing through the university neighborhood campus Mexico, schools, buildings, streets, squares and to the infinity of the cosmos that is studied in the observatory of San Pedro Martir..."
Take the opportunity to recognize and unite the people who give life to the Autonomous University of Mexico and its impact on the study of science, technology, art and culture. To create awareness of being a university citizen, with the responsibility of being passionate about exercising a profession and being part of a diverse and proud, responsible and committed community. To summon all those who have formed, form and will form the university community, the student body, the working base, the academic or administrative body, those who have passed through its classrooms, the graduates and the regular visitors; to surround them with a contemporary perspective and adequate to the realities that the university lives and faces today. To preserve and cultivate critical thinking, political and social sense, plurality, freedom, diversity, respect and union, values that characterized the early years of university life, reinforced in the late twenties with the achievement of our autonomy; the same values that forge the University Citizenship, in agreement and public responsibility, solidary and generous, example of sharing and articulating knowledge for the benefit of all, even more, when facing multiple problems.
