Abstract

The Other Captive That the Biographies and Films About Cervantes Do Not Tell

Alfonso Dávila Oliveda

The text is a historical investigation that offers an alternative view of Miguel de Cervantes's captivity, based on documents, letters, and studies by various authors. Dávila reconstructs the events that led to Cervantes and his brother Rodrigo being captured by corsairs in 1575, linking their capture to political intrigues involving Philip II, Don Juan of Austria, and Antonio Pérez.
