The Charter aims to integrate intangible cultural heritage (ICH) into the management of heritage sites, recognizing its symbolic, spiritual, and social value, and promoting its safeguarding alongside tangible heritage. It is a document that seeks to acknowledge, protect, and guide the treatment of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) at heritage sites.

This type of heritage includes practices, knowledge, beliefs, expressions, and traditions that are not physical objects, but are deeply connected to places, communities, and memories.
